Case Study · Commercial
A North Dallas logistics company outgrew their legacy DVR and keypad-entry system. Ideal Installs designed and deployed the full replacement — surveillance, access control, and enterprise WiFi — with zero operational downtime.
The client
A third-party logistics operator running an 80,000 sqft distribution center in North Dallas came to us with a stack of growing problems: a 12-year-old analog DVR that was missing footage, a physical-key system that required rekeying every time an employee left, and WiFi dead zones that forced pickers to bring product back to the dock just to scan it.
The challenge
The real constraint wasn't the tech — it was the operation. This facility runs 22 hours a day. We needed to pull and terminate roughly 12,000 feet of new cable, install 78 cameras at 30 ft truss height, cut and frame 14 door-access points, and commission an entirely new network — all while dock-to-door operations continued.
Our approach
We started with a full site walk and produced a camera-coverage heat map, a door-by-door access spec, and a WiFi predictive survey before a single cable was pulled. The install was broken into four phases with go/no-go checkpoints so the client always had a working security posture.
12,000 ft of Cat6A, OM4 fiber uplinks, new IDF and MDF build-outs, Ruckus switch stack and controller. Core live before any endpoints touched.
Verkada IP cameras covering dock doors, aisles, staging, and perimeter. Cloud-first VMS with on-prem backup. Legacy DVR kept hot until cutover day.
Brivo cloud access on all employee doors, mobile + badge credentials, tied to HR directory. Lockdown presets for after-hours and emergency.
18 Ruckus APs placed per predictive survey, validated with live RF heat maps. Handheld scanners re-provisioned and tested before signoff.
The result
The facility now runs on a single unified security posture. IT manages cameras and access from one pane of glass. HR onboards and offboards employees with a single credential action. WiFi dead zones are gone — scanner round-trip time dropped and daily throughput went up.
"They scoped it, phased it, and delivered on time. I never once felt like I was in over my head, which is rare with a project this size. Ideal Installs is our integrator going forward."— Operations Director, North Dallas 3PL
